Jamie Grey’s Emotional New Single: How Did We Get To Midnight

Rising singer-songwriter Jamie Grey continues to lay his heart bare in emotional new single ‘How Did We Get To Midnight‘.

Jamie has released his first single for 2026, where he continues to bring emotional and touching lyrics exploring identity and how life can creep on us so quickly without us noticing. While this is similar to his previous single, which was shared last year, ‘Like What I See‘, the singer continues to write songs on the reflections of growing up and the experiences we face in life. While he sticks to these continuous themes, Jamie has a way of writing gutwrenching tracks that can portray various perspectives on the song. Despite ‘How Did We Get To Midnight‘ describing how life can move like the speed of lightning, you can also resonate with the lyrics on falling in love with someone, wondering how it got to midnight when you have been staying up all evening talking to someone you are connecting with. “How did we get to midnight?/Heaven knows how the time flies/It took me too long to realize how it goes/How did we get to midnight?/When did it start to pass by?

How did we get to midnight is a song about my obsession with time. I’m an overthinker, and as I’ve got older, I’ve started to understand the value of time a lot more. I used to think I was gonna be a kid forever, but I blinked and that time was over. Now life for me is about trying my hardest to be present, grateful and remembering that I need to cherish time with the people I love the most. This song is that reminder to myself.”

Raised in Redcar near Middlesbrough, Jamie’s rise has been unorthodox and certainly not overnight. He quit his job in finance to follow his dream of music and landed a first big opportunity in ‘The Voice’ in 2017 – but when that didn’t work out, he dedicated everything to proving the judges wrong. He returned in 2018 stronger and more confident, leading to him being backed by Olly Murs and Tom Jones, before reaching the top eight.

2025 saw Jamie Grey make great strides forward, with Radio 2 airplay for ‘Like What I See’ and BBC Introducing support for ‘Chains’ while the live front saw him complete a sold-out UK headline tour, a show as guest to Rag’n’Bone Man, and play a candlelight performance at St. Pancras Old Church.

While releasing his romantic piano-led ballad, Jamie is now set to embark on his first full UK and European headline tour this autumn. He previewed the tour by commenting, “I’ll be coming to you all to play the ‘Songs I Wrote’ tour which will be just me and my acoustic guitar, up close and personal raw and direct. This is what I’ve always dreamt about. If you’ve connected with a song of mine since I started releasing songs in 2020 I’d really love to see you there!”.
