Haven’t we all had that dreaded feeling of reaching the transition from teenage years to adulthood? The thoughts surround our minds of what is to come and whether we are going to survive throughout this world. Well, no need to answer as upcoming artist Baby Queen – AKA Bella Letham, does this for us in her new single ‘Quarter-Life Crisis‘.
Displaying as the title track from Baby Queen’s upcoming album set to release on October 6th, ‘Quarter-Life Crisis‘ sees the singer go through the motions and phases of a relatable young adult trying to live their life with the experiences of anxiety, depression and how the hell they are going to manage with this unpredictable world.
The track filled with this experience is the truth spilt out in lyrics from the 25-year-old Bella Letham, stemming from a conversation between Babay Queen and her cousin’s girlfriend, “I felt like I had so much responsibility, but I still felt like a child. I was talking about how I felt, and she said the phrase, quarter-life crisis.” Baby Queen looked up the phrase and felt validated: “People have this experience where you’re looking both forward and back. It’s the realisation that actually, you can’t fuck around anymore. Fucking around finally comes to an end.”
With the help of long-time collaborator King Ed, the upcoming artist has delivered the exact experience we all go through at some point in our lives, not knowing whether we are doing the right thing in our lives filled with choices and decisions. Alongside the haunting lyrics and the pounding, upbeat sound of the musical genre rock-pop, Baby Queen’s elegant vocals shine through, where they are nostalgic for the life ahead but also vulnerable, going through different emotions, happy or sad. Similarly, it reminds us of an Olivia Rodrigo song, both a talented lyricist and vocalist.
‘Quarter Life Crisis’ features 12 tracks, including previously released singles ‘Dream Girl’, ‘We Can Be Anything’ and ‘All The Things’. Already, the star has been noticed by being featured in the Netflix hit series Heartstopper, where her soundtrack of songs has played throughout the episodes, which is an achievement all by itself.
Having spent the best part of the 2020s taking over London’s anarchic anti-pop scene and writing songs for a generation falling out of love with social media that transformed her into her genre’s reigning star, BABY QUEEN is discovering the more grounded and introspective side of herself too, leading to the creation of some of the most pure, excellent and affecting music of her life so far.
Hot on the heels of a busy summer of live shows – including performing on the main stage at Reading & Leeds – BABY QUEEN recently announced the first leg of her forthcoming ‘Quarter Life Crisis’ tour.
