Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo is yet again making waves and bringing her girl rocker-chic power to life on her second album, ‘Guts‘, which is already a fan favourite.
Following up on her 2021 4x Platinum debut album, Sour, the 20-year-old singer-songwriter is still exquisitely pouring her heart and soul into the pop-punk anthems that are currently released. From the number one hit of ‘Drivers License‘ and ‘Good 4 U‘ to her newly released tracks ‘Bad Idea Right?‘ and ‘Get Him Back!‘, it clearly shows the High School Musical Series actress isn’t afraid of saying what is on her mind, messy or not.
Co-produced with long-time collaborator Daniel Nigro, spilling her ‘Guts’ out into the list of twelve tracks, Olivia transports us into another chaotic rollercoaster ride throughout her girlhood, where she dazzles us with lyrics of messiness and hard-hitting emotions with the erratic collection of songs. Altogether it gives a combination of energetic tracks along with slow emotional ballads, an album which provides all different emotions into one single tracklist.
Belting out the uptempo, rocking tracks such as ‘Get Him Back!’ sees the star in a love and hate type of feeling, going through the phases of wanting to love this man and also wanting to kiss and kill him with sweet revenge.
Along with the pounding, energetic drums and bass fused with Olivia’s empowering vocal range, singing with passionate anger, it is a track that you can sing to any day and feel yourself transforming into a type of rocker.
In the opposite of wanting to get someone back, the album sees the singer travel through confusing emotions, whether it is hurrying to see someone in another upbeat anthem, ‘Bad idea Right?‘, or feeling like your heart has torn out in the bittersweet track of ‘Vampire‘.
The new album surrounds itself with intense emotions, channelling her messy and chaotic thoughts into impressive lyrics and an enchanting vocal range that is charismatic and beautiful simultaneously. A story within the twelve tracks overall is about discovering herself and being vulnerable in relationships and life.
Ahead of the ‘Guts’ release, the VMA’s was also on the horizon, which saw Olivia receive six nominations for the music video ‘Vampire’, directed by Petra Collins, including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Song of the Summer. Collins previously earned a GRAMMY® nomination for her work on the video for Rodrigo’s 4x Platinum, Hot 100-topping “good 4 u” and also directed the videos for her 2x Platinum “Brutal” and “bad idea right?”.
While being the youngest artist in Hot 100 history to debut three hits at No. 1, while SOUR is the fastest album in history to have all its songs certified RIAA Platinum, it seems the talented vocalist isn’t disappearing anytime soon with her exciting announcement of the ‘Guts’ tour coming next year.
