With an intro of splashing waves from a beach and a serene sound of piano keys charming its way throughout the beginning of the song, indie pop singer Rosie Darling sings softly with vulnerability, being truthful about the complexities of being in a relationship inside her new single ‘Villian‘.
Exploring the themes of conflict, love and discoverability, singer Rosie takes her listeners on a folk-pop journey, narrating a story where she acts like a ‘Villain‘ to help somebody move on with their life instead of taking the blame into their own hands.
While Darling sings with her signature tender vocals, much like the tone of Maisie Peters, it would be expected to be a light-hearted song, but like Darling and her talent to express difficult, hard-hitting emotions into lyrics, she becomes an antagonist character accepting the fault for someone else consequences, doing this she helps them move on and live in peace, where she suffers with being portrayed as the ‘Villain’.
“Villain is about learning to be okay with being the ‘bad guy’ in someone else’s story. For some people, it is easier to blame others than to take responsibility for their role in their own suffering, and this song is my way of letting those relationships go instead of trying to continuously fix them. Once you learn that universal truth that not everyone will understand you and your heart, it is easier to let go.”
Going along in her musical journey, it shows how the Boston-born, LA-based indie-pop artist knows how to create a collection of songs which describe the heartbreak and trauma in life and turn it into a resonating song which every listener can relate to.
Songs such as ‘Lost On You‘, ‘Boxes‘ and her recent single ‘Villian‘ from her 2022 ‘Golden Age EP delve into narratives filled with compelling and captivating melodies that bring hard-hitting truths about living life. Adding empowering lyrics and confessions spilling from her songs, Rosie is discovered to have conquered a lot in love.
With over 190M+ global streams, Rosie is now on her way to unveiling her upcoming debut album, ‘Lanterns‘ set to release on November 10th, continuing to travel through the darkness and becoming the light at the end of the tracklist.
