Since releasing his 80s pop, funky single, ‘It Girl’, R&B singer-songwriter Sedric Perry has unveiled his artistic music video to accompany the retro pop single.
Co-directed by Sedric and Kristine Bogan, the music video for ‘It Girl’ transports us back to the happier times of the 1980s, filled with vibrant scenes of comedy, iconic dance routines, glow-ups, and much more.
While giving us self-love and confidence, queer artist Sedric transports us into the world of colour and magic, where we see him dressed in colourful athletic gear on his way to deliver a sassy dance routine which you cannot help but want to join in with them.
With this bright, sequined music video, Sedric uses the influences of Whitney and Prince to bring an 80s retro pop song which encourages listeners to shake off their self-doubt and to have a brilliant time.
Speaking of the track, Sedric says, “Two years ago I was in a really dark place. I’d lost my dad, several family members, and life had shifted in a way I couldn’t make sense of. I had to get to know myself all over again. I’d decided to drop everything else (songwriting sessions, other bands, etc.) and commit to my artistry. It was a lot more challenging than I’d imagined and a lot of demons surfaced. But I decided to keep going anyway. And once I made that decision, it felt like the universe had co-signed it and a wild journey started.
One day, Gabe (my producer) and I had met up to finish up another song we’d started, but found ourselves in a really silly mood. I think we’ve always found a safe space in each other, because nothing is off limits when it comes to music. So that day, we didn’t even open the other song, but instead went down a rabbit hole of listening to Prince, Whitney, Vapor Wave, and some crazy shit Gabe had made. Then we started with this guitar riff. I hopped on the mic and started mumbling some melodies. And before we knew it, we had a full song.
As a creative, breaking barriers has been at the forefront of Sedric Perry’s artistic expression. He is driven to create a more accepting and inclusive world, and with this uplifting dance anthem released, we cannot wait to see what Sedric does next for 2023 in the world of music.
