Pop sensations Max and Harvey return with their latest single, ‘Lonely’.
Released in May, pop duo Max and Harvey unveil their new single with an exciting edge called ‘Lonely‘. Their single describe their experiences in relationships; they passionately sing about commitment issues in relationships, which distance overtakes and the pain surrounding them. In this deeply emotional song, their distinct, harmonious vocals echo the words: “Why you got to act like that?/But if you’re so happy, maybe you should go/But you won’t/Swear I’m no good baby, take it slow/Cause you know I won’t/Cause I don’t want to be lonely.”
Compared to their previous single, ‘In My DNA‘, it looks like the pair are experimenting with their music, this is because in ‘Lonely‘ they bring an extra style of music which is rock. As the song starts with a light electric guitar, they talk about the recent events occurring in the relationship. While the tempo increases, they start questioning why these things are happening and not wanting to be lonely. It’s like the rock sound and pounding of drums convey the anger and frustration in the lyrics, giving it a boost and feeling the same energy as the singers.
“We’re massively proud of Lonely. Making the song was an eye-opening experience for us, as it helped us discover what we want our music to sound like. We wrote it about having commitment issues, as especially with our career over the last five years, we’ve struggled to maintain any real relationships. This song was our way of communicating that, as we know we’re not the only ones…”
Max and Harvey
Like always, Max and Harvey bring new fresh beats to their songs, but since lockdown, the pair lost their focus on music, something they’d not had the chance to do since coming second on Celebrity X Factor in late 2019. “We really wanted to work on our musicianship, so we built a home studio in Max’s room and got to work on making new music.”
The boys also had to learn how to use a professional TV standard camera due to filming their CBBC TV show – FOMO, at home, and they began work on their first-ever podcast – School Daze with Max and Harvey. The Spotify original, which launched in November last year, aired for 31 episodes and saw the boys tackling the culture of the schoolyard with the help of their family, friends and fans. Following its success, they were commissioned to create another series for Spotify, this time simply titled The Max and Harvey Podcast. Moving away from the schoolyard, the new series gives exclusive insight into their lives. From fellow TikTokkers to artists they admire, to having unfiltered, topical conversations about their lives and experiences both online and offline, they gain interesting knowledge from various people in their podcast.
This year also sees the return of their live shows this August. The ‘This is Not A Phase’ 10-date tour starts on August 11th in Glasgow and travels the country before ending on 23 August in Southampton. Full dates below, and Tickets on sale now!
