Megan McKenna 'This' Music Video

Megan McKenna makes an emotional presence in her ‘This’ music video

On the 5th of March, Megan McKenna, winner of the 2019 series, The XFactor: Celebrity, revealed her music video to her single, ‘This‘.

The music video for Megan McKenna’s debut single, ‘This’, is a moving performance; from every lyric to the setting it was filmed in, it brings a beautiful sadness to it. You only have to watch the remarkable video to understand the feeling portrayed in it.

Singing heartfully in an abandoned chapel with igniting candles surrounding her, Megan describes how painful and delicate falling in love can be, but going through the hurt can transform more strength in you. There can also be another perspective of ‘This‘ to, as it can portray how you can hugely desire something that it creates many rocky roads that you find yourself wanting to give up, but you get back up and try again.

“I chose an abandoned chapel because I wanted to create an ethereal mood for this video. Churches are places of honesty and vulnerability so I felt like that was the perfect environment, to show myself opening up to the world and going on my journey. It’s a very stripped back, emotional performance which shows me finally getting a breakthrough and seeing a bit of light. The glitter represents all the magical things happening in my life and symbolises my emotions. It’s like a wild ride on a rollercoaster but ends on a positive note with the realisation that I’m just a normal vulnerable girl who wants her dreams to come true.”

While having her delightful vocals, what conveys an emotional music video is the various facial expressions she uses; you can feel her sadness and the fight rushing through her. She also wears a floor-length black dress with a black veil covering her face. Having this outfit can show she is attending a funeral of hers, letting go of her past, and then sings her heart out to the abandoned chapel, where she eventually finds a light, like the candles around her.

With over half a million streams across DSPs in just two weeks, including the number 1 on itunes on the day of release, the video for ‘This’ was filmed at the Asylum Chapel in Peckham. It reveals a raw and emotional performance from a reflective Megan with a sprinkling of magic and positivity.
