Recently we had the chance to talk with Lucy Spraggan, who is a talented singer and who has appeared on The X factor as a contestant in 2012.
Hi, Lucy hope you’re doing okay, how is lockdown for you?
It is going alright, I have been up to quite a lot and trying to keep busy.
So I have heard you have lost an amazing three stone, could you share any diet or exercise plans you have?
I do a lot of running, and I make sure that I eat healthily. I actually do a macro diet which is where I don’t eat too much of anything. I make a note of everything that I eat, and I stay in control.
That is good! What advice would you give to people who want to lose weight but are feeling a bit unmotivated to?
For me, it is not about motivation anymore it is about discipline, and so rather than saying ‘I’ve got nothing to get me out of bed’, it is like no you get out, or ‘I’ve got nothing that stops me from eating these crisps’, I’m like no I don’t eat those crisps.
So rather than finding motivation, which is sometimes almost impossible, it is about just saying to yourself no, and learning that discipline is something that has taken me 28 years to learn.
Well, you are doing great Lucy! You have also been sober for about 10 months, how do you feel about this change?
I feel amazing. It has been the best lifestyle choice I have ever made, and it answers for a lot of the weight loss and lifestyle change like I love fitness. I was always hungover, tired and anxious, so it has changed a lot for me, and I feel like a different person.
You are even going through a divorce which I am so sorry to hear that, how have you coped during it?
I feel great in myself. However, there are aspects of divorce that are very challenging, and there is always one side who are more challenged than the other. So yeah it is pretty sh*t, but it isn’t divorce that is sh*t, it is behaviour that is.
So I believe you are working on your new album ‘Choices’, could you describe what this album will be about?
Do you know how I was talking about discipline and lifestyle change? Well, this album is about if you want something then go and get it. The first part of the album is about me trying to find my feet, and how I was lost for a long time, and then, there is a moment in the album where this is the time where we f**king go all in.
So it is very much that vibe and I am looking forward to sharing that excitement with people about life, and I hope some people feel the same way I do, not exclusively from the music, but if it helps.
Speaking of music, you appeared on The X Factor in 2012. What was The X Factor experience like?
It was pretty weird. It was 8 years ago which is hard to remember, despite talking about it to everybody. It wasn’t my cup of tea like TV is very different from how music is and the industry is nothing like The X Factor. Overall it was an experience.
Finally what advice would you give to people that want to be in the music career?
Just that you should keep going, regardless of what anybody has to say. I have had enough people tell me that I need to look different, that I need to change my name or that I am not suited to this music industry. Every time this happened, I said ‘this is your opinion, good luck to you’. Just do what you want to do. If you do something you love, there is no reason you will be bad at it, and that is the truth. Just keep going and f**k everyone else.
