While announcing his new single ‘California Sun‘ on Instagram, Samuel describes what California has meant for him, describing the journey of his career, stating how “I remember driving over mullholland with my producer one night, listening to nina simone as the sun went down over the city in LA we were talking about mixes and production ideas, and lyrics – and i remember thinking to myself ‘every hour I’ve worked in a kitchen, any 80 hour week was worth it for this’ I was so out my depth back then, jumping around different studios, learning, writing, feeling like an imposter. But California’s got a funny way of keeping you dreaming. I still am. I never thought i’d get the chance to write music as a career, let alone the adventure its taken me on.”
Inspired by the likes of music icons Sam Cooke, BB King and Van Morrison, Samuel blends genres of 60s chilled R&B and soul, delivering rhythmic tracks which you cannot help but dance to or feel empowered by.
With his upcoming second album ‘One Last Dance In The Valley‘, Samuel has given us yet another taste of what is to be expected on his new collection of tracks, revealing the joy and creating a relaxed and chilled atmosphere where you can feel happy in summer and feel inspired.
His music career took off in 2016 with his debut EP ‘Let It All Out.’ The singer has inspired and given people hope, as 20 years ago, Samuel was only working in a kitchen and living in a caravan, and one day he sat down in front of a piano and started crafting music, putting talented and emotional words to paper. At the time, he didn’t stand out, but that moment unlocked something within him. He vowed to improve, and step by step, that’s what he achieved. He’s still at it today.
He continued to grind, often writing in a rain-soaked caravan in England that’s about as far away from the decadent glamour of Los Angeles as you can imagine. And with a series of independent releases, people gradually started to pay attention. The turning point came in lockdown when ‘Feels Like Summer’ took off – and it never went away, resurfacing each summer and soundtracking 2 million fan-created videos across socials.
