Rising independent artist Alex Spencer speaks on the concept of life and the struggles we face in an unfiltered way inside his debut EP ‘These Will Be The Days‘.
In June, the rising star gave us a taste of what was to be expected on his debut EP by releasing the self-titled single ‘These Will Be The Days‘, revealing how his debut collection of music will explore themes of overcoming obstacles in life and trying to make ends meet.
A blend of bittersweet stories in his EP, filled with four soothing yet uptempo acoustic tracks, Alex sings with his heart and soul, passionately singing with a soaring tone to his vocals on mental health and how life can get chaotic, to making sure you live life to the fullest. The EP is a mixture of holding onto hope and unmasking the messiness of the weird thing we call life, going from ups and downs like you’re on a rollercoaster.
From staying positive and conveying messages of doing everything you can before the world comes to an end in ‘All Of This Will Be Gone‘ to opening up on his vulnerable emotional side, unpacking the reality of mental health and suffering in silence behind a mask inside ‘Masks‘. “I’m dreaming/Yeah I’m screaming/Nothing comes out of my mouth.”
With empowering songwriting, the 19-year-old creates; he also blends different genres of music, going from indie pop to indie rock, whether it is slowing down the melody with a sweet-sounding piano in ‘Masks’ to increasing the tempo and uplifting the energy inside ‘All Of This Will Be Gone‘. Alex is a creative who knows how to match the music to the feelings produced in the song, which is not something every young artist can do, but this rising talent does this well.
Written at a time where Alex was facing lots of self-doubt, he explains “It’s important to chase what makes you feel free.” Barcelona-born, Alex sings the bridge of the track in his second language Spanish, explaining “it’s part of who I am – growing up between cultures I always wanted to incorporate my Spanish into my music and it added an emotional depth that I couldn’t quite capture any other way, it felt the most honest.”
From busking in the streets of Manchester to supporting Louis Tomlinson on tour, Alex has risen far in the music industry, and his career is only just starting. This year is shaping up to be Alex’s biggest yet, with him set to perform at Reading & Leeds Festival 2026 on Thursday, 27th and Sunday, 30th of August 2026 before he embarks on his debut European headline tour, in which the pre-sale sold out in 24 hours.
