Singer-songwriter Zak Abel unveils his new track ‘What Love Is’ discovering the risks of finding love

We as people always want to push ourselves out there to discover what love is all about and the different ways we can consume it, and now Zak Abel has defined this in his recent single called ‘What Love is‘.

In working on his upcoming album, Zak is progressing with his music experiments; while going from dance-pop in his 2020 single ‘Bad‘ to now bringing his signature style soul pop to ‘What Love Is‘, he continues to mark his unique style on his songs, creating fresh rhythms on every track.

Co-written with Brendan Grieve (Sam Smith) & long-time collaborator Connor Blake (Dermot Kennedy), with Zak laying down vocals in the confines of his South West London bedroom. Nathan Duvall of Disciples (Calvin Harris) heads up the production, and it was mixed by Mark Ralph (Years & Years, Becky Hill, Rudimental). ‘What Love Is‘ is about taking the risk to put yourself out there after past relationships have gone wrong. Now he’s trying to discover a new love out there.

London-born, this British singer-songwriter first rose to fame after providing guest vocals on Gorgon City’s UK Top 20 hit single ‘Unmissable’. He is a singular talent who writes and sings. Everything he has done so far has been building towards today.

Since his debut album in 2017 ‘Only When We’re Naked‘, the British singer has collaborated with a variety of artists, including Kygo, Duke Domont, Gorgon City and many more. He has created a collection of songs that are upbeat, energetic and speak honestly. Now the singer has an upcoming headline tour that kicks off in Stockholm at the end of April and will also see a date in the capital on May 23rd at Brixton Electric – tickets here.

Penning his own songs as a 14-year-old and uploading videos of his work to YouTube, eventually led to him signing a record deal with Atlantic in 2014 and meeting influential music producer, Joker. He then released a four-track EP in 2015, and collaborated with Tom Misch & Kaytranada, setting him up perfectly for the release of his 2017 debut album, Only When We’re Naked.

Widely respected as a songwriter, he’s written hit records for Kygo, Avicii, R3hab & ZAYN, Paloma Faith and John Legend.

While being a successful singer-songwriter, Zak Abel goes the extra mile to show his dedication to mental health by being an ambassador for CALM and speaks openly about issues surrounding this topic, as well as channelling themes of identity and mental struggle into his lyrics.
