Sometimes at one point in our lives, we all go through some heartbreak, where that person you trust goes ahead and betrays you, and then you encounter all of the overwhelming emotions of hurt, pain and questions of ‘why did this happen to me?’. If this is relatable, then surely singer-songwriter, Cat Burns has achieved this inside her single, ‘Go’.
Released in 2020 was ‘Go’ crafted by 21-year-old Streatham singer-songwriter, Cat Burns. From busking in the Southbank of London to gaining half a million followers on Tik Tok performing covers, Cat Burns was one special singer to recognise. Luckily enough, pop sensation Sam Smith did and teamed up with her on a strip-back version of ‘Go’.
Arriving in time for Pride month, Sam Smith combines his ambitious singing style with Cat Burns’s harmonious voice, and together they create a powerful feeling which brings empathy to the single.
With a soothing guitar playing along to the delicate melody, you can already tell that the two singers together achieved the message of the song, explaining how impactful it is to experience the torture of heartbreak. Sam Smith, known for his emotive singles about love and loss of relationships, brings his gentle and warm style to the single, increasing the effectiveness of what it’s like to go through the sadness of parting with a loved one.
“So don’t call this number anymore
‘Cause I won’t be there for you like I was before
I should have listened to my friends
They always know best”
Cat and Sam recently previewed their version of ‘Go’ to fans and onlookers with a special performance at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park.
“I came across Cat’s music earlier this year, and I was immediately moved and refreshed by her honesty, incredible technique, and delivery as a vocalist,” says Sam. “I am so thankful to be a very small part of this special song and moment. Cat is a gift to us all.”
When speaking about working with Sam, Cat says, “What an honour and pleasure it was to work with Sam! They were super lovely and added an extra level of special to the song, which is clear to hear!”
Conquering the live music circuit this year, Cat recently supported Mae Muller and Years & Years on their respective tours before headlining three sold-out dates at London’s Omeara and The Deaf Institute in Manchester last month. Adding to her exciting live schedule, Cat will be supporting Ed Sheeran on his European tour run this summer.
