Irish rising star, LAOISE, has recently released her EP, ‘Healthy‘.
Throughout lockdown across the world, singer LAOISE, like many of us, has dealt with a hard time figuring out her thoughts that surround her mind. It led to her nearly quitting music altogether, but we are glad she didn’t.
Through starting therapy to sort out her struggles, music saved her by writing down her thoughts in her mind, and then she was able to express these in her music. While writing how she feels, LAOISE unveiled her new EP, ‘Healthy‘, a five-song tracklist where she devotes time to sing about her emotions. Helping her produce this was long-time collaborators, Seán and Richey McCourt.

The EP sums up mental health, overthinking and contemplating everything in relationships. LAOISE conveys how overwhelming life, in general, can get.
Having a funky and alternative pop rhythm sound and her soothing vocals, LAOISE’s music is one of a kind, and it is unique from music that sparks through today’s mainstream media.
Listening to the EP, most songs such as ‘Healthy‘, ‘Movies’ explains how you can’t always live up to expectations in relationships. LAOISE teaches us how life can be chaotic and emotional at times; it is not always perfect. By presenting this story in her EP ‘Healthy‘, it makes it realistic and meaningful, it’s what people need to hear, to see how life throws many choices at you, and you can’t live up to something better, you have just got to live and not worry too much.
While showing the anxious thoughts in her life, LAOISE includes a fun, upbeat, disco-pop song in her EP, ‘Gravy‘, that has a care-free feeling, declaring how she loves people like crazy. It brings a combination of struggling aspects of life and the other that is fun and free, and we love how it brings the two sides together to make an emotive EP.
“Over the past year, I’ve learned to really trust my instincts and give myself what I want and need where I can. For me, that’s Healthy. I only hope that what I’m putting out can offer a similar sort of distraction for listeners, and its been a great way for me to continue looking inward and making music that marks exactly where I am in my life right now – which is a continuous venture towards trusting myself, being vulnerable with my words and healing.”
LAOISE
Originally from Galway in Ireland, LAOISE grew up surrounded by traditional Irish music – another world away from the sound she now commands. Having learnt to play the fiddle at the age of 5, she would regularly attend traditional Irish sessions at her local Galway pub, and it was this sense of togetherness through music that made her want to pursue being a musician as a career. She records, produces and releases her music completely independently and totally owns her brand of bold, glittering, gutsy pop – paving the way for Irish-born pop music.
LAOISE’s music is deeply inspired by the theatrics of Kate Bush, the charm of Stevie Nicks and the confidence of Taylor Swift to constantly evolve and develop a new sound. Drawing from her combined influences, she thrives on being able to experiment with her music and the concepts and emotions she’s able to portray, and the LAOISE we hear today is as real as it gets.
