Yesterday, a large population of viewers tuned in to watch the Oprah Winfrey interview of Meghan and Harry discussing their important decision on leaving the royals.
The whole idea of wanting to broadcast this special interview was to allow Harry and Meghan to convey their perspective of why they took a step back from the royal family. The couple also wanted to separate the truth and the lies that the media upheld.
So what were the key revelations said during the interview?
Despite the rift between them and the royals, the couple shared they still have a loving, positive relationship with the Queen. “I’ve spoken to my Grandmother more this past year than I have in many years.”
Speaking of relationships, Harry also described the relationship that he has between his father, Prince Charles, and his brother, Prince William, are at the moment where they need time to heal. However, he still loves them immensely.
Harry clarified how he did not ‘blindside’ the Queen when he and Meghan chose to step back from the royal family.As well as talking to Oprah about choices to take a step back, Harry commented on how he didn’t want history repeating itself from his mother, Princess Diana’s experience in the royal family.
“I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago, because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us – but at least we had each other.”

Meghan revealed how there were discussions based on Archie’s skin colour:
In the months in which Meghan was pregnant with Archie, she stated how there were discussions to do with “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born“. Harry also explained how he would never share what went on, but he did feel ‘shocked’ and ‘awkward’.
When Meghan entered the life of a royal, she felt a great amount of pressure on her:
“I just didn’t want to be alive any more. And that was a very clear and real and frightening, constant thought.”

Harry also opened up on how he felt ‘trapped’ too, and without Meghan, he would not have found a way out of the royal family:
“I was trapped but I didn’t know I was trapped. Like the rest of my family are, my father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave and I have huge compassion for that.”

Harry also commented on how a large part of why he left the royals was to do with the race elements. “What was different for me was the race element, because now it wasn’t just about her. It was about what she represented.”
Altogether, Harry spoke on how glad he was to do the Oprah interview because he had his wife beside him, and they are not alone as they have each other.
Finally, the couple shared the delightful news of having their second child this summer, who will be a baby girl.
