Last week artist Louis Dunford released his new EP called ‘The Morland EP’. It was one where it held truth, pain and nostalgia at the same time.
‘The Morland EP’ is filled with personal observations from Louis’s childhood, he expresses a true and emotional story throughout his EP, holding memories which are both devastating and joyful.
The title of this debut EP actually originates from Morland News in North London where Louis originally came from.
In the intro of the EP the singer focuses on a truthful analysis of London, a city which is not all sunshine and rainbows, a city which has a silver lining filled with dark times too. In ‘London Requiem‘ a soft piano melody is played, along with Louis beautifully singing about unlikable experiences he comes across in London. ‘Tales of sex, drugs and romance and victims of bad chance / The kids who live and die by the knife / So many lives lost but so few stories are told‘.
Louis continues narrating about devastating experiences in his EP such as singing a personal story about a young boy who leads to having a tragic death on one of his streets. In Louis announcement of his EP, he opens up on what it is about and how at sixteen his and his mates childhood ended in tragedy. So the track called ‘Ballad Of Benjamin‘ could relate to his life.
However, apart from the gloomy days that Louis truthfully sings in his EP, he also is reminisces on the happy days of his childhood and living life to the fullest. Along with a acoustic guitar strumming in the background, Louis sings about ‘Oh, what I’d give to be fourteen once again /
But still nostalgia makes me sick, I feel I’ve grown up far too quick / But I can’t help thinking ’bout back in the days‘.
“This EP is a collection of songs that navigate through the best and worst days of my youth. They are stories from those teenage years, where I first experienced real friendship and brotherhood, my first experiences with drink and drugs and my first experience with death, the toll it takes and the struggles that follow.”
We believe Louis Dunford is a singer who will have a successful journey ahead of him, he brings a honest and humorous approach to his songs which aren’t always entered in the music industry, so with the start of Louis’s debut EP and his singing style, he will definitely bring something new and empowering to the world of music.
Performing live at the end of last year, Louis sold out his first shows straight away and he had to postpone three nights at London’s The Slaughtered Lamb and recently reschedule two nights at London’s Lafayette, after selling out all shows in minutes.
