Last night singer and actress KeKe Palmer hosted for the first time at the Video Music Awards 2020.
Earlier this month, thrilled as she was, the ‘Snack’ singer shared the big announcement on how she was going to be hosting the VMA’s 2020.
In an Instagram video, she took the announcement by telling True Jackson (acted by herself), in which she starred in the show from 2008. In the video KeKe Performed a special VMA rap as she rushes with excitement, waiting until the 30th of August where she hosts at MTV in New York City.
In an interview with Billboard, the ‘True Jackson’ star opened up on how proud she was to rise to the opportunity to host the VMA’s, especially after 30 years, since Downtown Julie Brown, KeKe is now the first woman of colour to host again.
Personally, it meant to me, wow. It’s an opportunity for representation. Just knowing that someone who looks like me will get the opportunity to see me up there, which will make it more possible for them to see it for themselves. I want to give it my best so I can let them know what’s possible for them — and they can go beyond that.

As it skipped through the week onto 30th August, ‘in the heart of Manhatten’ KeKe was overfilled with joy and adrenaline as she took the stage at the MTV VMA’s to host. She wore a light pink feathered knee-length dress.
Before going into the music awards, KeKe paid her respects to Chadwick Boseman and sent her love to his family and friends.
Before we get into the music tonight, we need to talk about the loss of Chadwick Boseman, an actor whose talent and passion is a true inspiration to all the fans he touched and everyone he encountered.

Additionally, KeKe mentioned how ‘2020 has been undoubtfully a rough year for everybody’. She began to praise how hard-working and philanthropic front line workers have been by helping people manage through the coronavirus pandemic.
Nevertheless, the singer also talked about how amazing the younger generation have been by stepping up and letting voices be heard, as she addresses the Black Lives Matter Movement.
We have seen our generation step up, take to the streets, and make sure our voices will be heard, enough is enough… Music has that power, music can help us heal, it’s all love, and that’s what tonight is about.
