On the 25th of August pop-singer and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, on the day of her birthday, shared an exciting announcement that she will be releasing a new single on the 29th of August, featuring the wonderful Beenie Man. As well as this, Alexandra also shared other music news that involved her releasing an upcoming album too.

I’m taking this moment on a special day – my birthday – to let you know that I’m finally releasing some music for you guys THIS FRIDAY! . . . I’ve worked on this EP for a while now and at times have lost my voice because I was so determined to just put out some music! A full album will follow soon… but this Friday my new single drops feat THE ONE & ONLY @kingbeenieman . . . I’m so excited for you all to hear this vibe. It’s the first of a collection of carnival-inspired tracks (coming later this year). It’s been a crazy, weird and mad kind of a year so I wanted to create something we could all vibe too! Countdown to Friday begins now! Oh and I’m gonna be mash today cos my ass just turned 32 and I’m about to live my best life. Love you all and please let me know what you think of the song! xx

First in 2006, when her music career started to begin, when she first auditioned on The X Factor, unfortunately, she failed to make it through to The Judges Houses.

Persevering as she was, the singer returned in 2008 to make her mark in the world as a singer, impressing the judges with her strong and talented voice, Alexandra won the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008.

Since publicizing her last album in 2018 called ‘The Truth Is’, she is now returning to produce more incredible music with her new single already out called ‘Naturally’ with Beenie Man.

While being joyous and talented as she is, the ‘Hallelujah’ singer didn’t always have it so easy, as she opened up about her experience of racism in the music industry.

According to sources such as The Sun and The BBC, Alexandra shared how she was disheartened with the racial comments from the music industry. The ‘Bad Boy’ singer said how she was suggested to bleach her skin to appeal to the viewers and audiences. In addition to this, people from the music industry said to her “have to work 10 times harder than a white artist, because of the colour of your skin”.

After hearing X Factor contestant Misha B speak up about how she experienced racial injustice, Alexandra felt it was time for her to communicate her story to others.

Initially I didn’t want to say anything, I guess I was still scared. But then I’d lie awake at night crying, thinking about my brothers, my mum, about myself.

In a recent Instagram Live video, Alexandra expressed the melanholy racism encounter and emotionally told her story to the world.

I felt it was time to speak up… This is a scary moment for me. I didn’t always want to speak up.. but it is the right thing to do. So, here’s my truth, the positive and the emotional. 🤍 Side note: When I talk about ‘not seeing colour’ I’m not referring to the idea of being blind to skin colour, I’m talking about the notion within the music industry and institutionally that whiter is better. Why does an industry that should be focused on vocal ability spend so much time dictating an artists worth on their colour?

Since revealing her story to the world, Alexandra now feels conquerable, strong and comfortable in her own skin.

While releasing her new music release, Alexandra has also become an ambassador for Smart Works, a independent charity who support women into employment.
