Inside ‘Muse’: John Legend & Pharrell’s Cinematic Jazz-Pop Journey

Best friend duo and pop sensations John Legend and Pharrell Williams team up on new album ‘Muse‘, bringing infectious and smooth sounds that are like you are in an underground jazz club dancing away through the night.

After twenty years of friendship, the pop sensations collaborate on a music project for the first time, blending their incredible talent for songwriting, style and poignant harmonies together, producing a magnificent album.

As if you are floating on air and infatuated by the catchy rhythms of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and afrobeats, John and Pharrell create a tracklist of 16 songs which are filled with love, passion and chemistry, and it is hard not to be captivated by the compelling sounds from the album; it is like a theatrical jazz piece where the musical sequence of each track will take over your body and hypnotise you to dance along.

“Pharrell’s idea from the beginning was that we would create something with all of these classic, cinematic elements, almost like a Black James Bond feel to it,” Legend said, “but with a modern backbeat at its foundation. It was incredible to actually collaborate like this. You can hear both of our influences and the strongest parts of us together on this album. It sounds like something new for us, but this album came to life so naturally.”

From opening the album with a beautiful, dreamy soulful track exploring the themes of lust and infactuation inside title-track ‘Muse’ and being in a magical golden feeling when being in love inside the passionate warm single ‘Daylight‘ to progressing through this love journey into heartbreak and betrayal like bittersweet songs such as ‘Under The Bridge’, the pair explore the highs and lows of relationships, from how love can be so beautiful to how it can be the most tortotureous pain, they blend the good and bad and still with a aching story in the second part of the album, with their enchanting melodies and smooth harmonies, they still lighten up the mood. A beautiful masterpiece of art crafted by two legends.
