Inside Gabriella Cilmi’s Powerful Comeback Album ‘Pure Love’

Pop star Gabriella Cilmi returns to her love of music and proves she is no longer at the bottom. Instead, she has found her power, using her voice to explore her inner strength and experiences within both life and the music industry on her new album, Pure Love.

This marks the arrival of her first album in thirteen years, following her previous project, The Sting. Gabriella returns to her passion for music, and it shines throughout the ten tracks on her latest collection. Embracing confidence, self-reflection and self-acceptance, she takes the highs and lows of her life and transforms them into inspirational and hard-hitting stories that feel both personal and powerful.

From the release of early singles, including the title track Pure Love, Gabriella gave fans a glimpse into what promises to be a rhythmic musical masterpiece. She blends her signature sound of smooth pop, soul and jazz, creating uplifting melodies that feel like a work of art to listen to. These joyful arrangements create a peaceful atmosphere, allowing listeners to immerse themselves in Gabriella Cilmi’s soothing and tender vocals.

While incorporating warm grooves into her music to uplift listeners, she also creates powerful and bittersweet narratives, exploring experiences of feeling unworthy and being treated unfairly. Gabriella continues to offer optimism through her inspirational messages about confidence and perseverance. She masterfully balances hope and realism, acknowledging life’s struggles while encouraging listeners to remain positive through difficult times. Songs such as No To A King and the sweet piano-led Not Enough To Keep Me Down perfectly portray the strength and courage that Gabriella draws from her own experiences.

“For a long time I wasn’t sure what kind of record I wanted to make. I spent years running away from myself, believing the key to this album was abandoning my past. Then I was shown a video of me at 12, belting out the Rolling Stones’ ‘Jumping Jack Flash’, stomping my feet and singing my heart out, and it hit me. It reconnected me with her, her joy, and the music that made me want to sing in the first place.

So I began to revisit all the versions of myself: the girl who was signed at 13, the teenager living out her dream playing around the world, and the woman with a music industry hangover who felt lost and misunderstood. To make this record, I had to journey inward, which is why Pure Love feels like a homecoming.

Learning to let go of perfection in the recording process was a big part of it too. We recorded to tape, with the whole band together in one room, and I really think that helped us capture an extra piece of magic.”
