EastEnders star and incredible vocalist Shona Mcgarty has officially launched her solo music career with her debut release of the single ‘Mr Anxiety‘.
Known as the talented actress in the BBC soap EastEnders, playing the confident and sassy character Whitney Dean, Shona also had another trick up her sleeve, showcasing her hidden singing talent by sharing her covers on Instagram and duetting with Ronan Keating in the BBC show on New Year’s Eve in 2025. It seems Shona is not only a sensational actress but a beautiful singer-songwriter who is now launching her solo music career.
Shona joined EastEnders at the age of 16, entering Albert Square in 2008 with the Butcher family – Tiffany, Bianca, Liam and Morgan. Conveying many storylines, from the highs and lows in relationships with Fatboy, Mick Carter and the most recent love interest, Zack Hudson, to child grooming and miscarriage, it was remarkable and moving to see Whitney and actress Shona grow up in the BBC soap and act emotionally during these important stories.
Leaving the BBC soap in May 2024, Shona went on to be cast in the ITV show I Am A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! in series 25 in November 2025, where she earned third place in the final. We saw her personality and music skills come alive in the jungle.
Now Shona is ready to carve her own spotlight in the music industry with her debut release of ‘Mr Anxiety‘. With her powerhouse vocals coming to life in her single, Shona sings with passion and conviction in her debut track, beautifully singing about the bittersweet experiences of dating and getting into situationships and relationships, then spotting signs that these love interests ain’t going to work out. She conveys a relatable experience that many people go through, wondering why a good time in a relationship suddenly turns sour. Being an actress, Shona has a skill for turning songs and lyrics into powerful and emotional storytelling, and we cannot wait to see what upbeat pop song she does next!
