Pop sensation and Grammy-nominated star Teddy Swims continues to pour his heart and deep emotion into his songs, especially with the new single ‘Break Up In Reverse‘.
Following on from the previous single ‘Mr Know It All‘, in his new single Teddy slows it down, producing a heartfelt, cinematic, romantic and heartbreaking ballad with the sweet touch of an acoustic guitar and a sweet piano melody, blending them with his soaring, beautiful vocals, which fill the song with emotion.
Like his previous track, Teddy sticks to the theme of wanting to turn back time and fix things in a relationship which has sadly gone wrong. While ‘Mr Know It All‘ sounds upbeat and energetic, this brand new release is slower, grounding it with more moving emotion, feeling the gut-wrenching pain as the pop sensation sings beautifully with raw emotions on the breakup he wishes he could reverse and change. Working with long time collaborators Julian Bunetta, John Ryan, Matt Zara, Mikky Ekko, and Tommy King, Teddy sings: “I wish we could break up in reverse/Every night would get better instead of getting worse/I’d watch you slowly slip back into my hands/Say goodbye to me in the beginning/And love me in the end/And love me in the end.”
While Teddy has been known for creating songs featuring his distinct and strong vocals, this time the award-winning singer transitions his voice into a soft tone yet still soaring through the song as the chorus hits, exploring the pain of a breakup, wishing he could turn back time. Inside this new track, we see the softer tones of Teddy, which are even more beautiful and delicate to listen to.
“‘Break Up in Reverse’ really hits home for me right now and where I am in my life. Upon writing this song and my next album, I’ve been going through it with my relationship with my baby’s mother coming to an end. With ‘Break Up in Reverse’ we were super inspired by an old Nas song called ‘Rewind.’ We loved how the whole song takes place in reverse. So we thought, how beautiful would it be if we took the same idea but wrote it about my relationship, with the punchline being ‘say goodbye to me in the beginning and love me in the end.’ I hope you feel as moved as I do every time I hear and sing this song!”
