Corey Kent’s ‘Wannabe’: A Heartfelt Country Love Song

Country star Corey Kent sends us into a heartwarming, magical feeling with his new romantic release of ‘Wannabe‘.

Following on from the previous track Empty Words, Corey continues to bring his signature sound of that sweet-sounding acoustic melody, stripped back, that soothes your ears while listening to heartfelt words about love and yearning for someone, which we can all relate to.

In his moving song release, with that soothing and distinct country twang that every listener who is obsessed with country music loves, Corey fills his song with passion and honesty, describing the dreams in life everybody desires: wanting to have that golden fame, finding someone special and making a rich, successful life. Unlike Corey, who doesn’t want that lifestyle of fame and glory, but instead just wants to be with that special someone who can fill his life up with love and magic, just like we all want in life. “Everybody wanna cash that check that’ll change your life/See the ends of the earth/See their name in lights/They wanna be downtown drinking on a Friday night/They wanna find cigarette love under neon lights/All I wanna be is yours.”

Since joining the music industry in 2020 with his debut single Gold, Corey has continued to maintain his songwriting style of using moving narratives that are relatable, exploring themes of growing up, experiencing life and navigating love and relationships, while trying to understand yourself. Reminding us of country stars like Max Mcnown and Zach Bryan, putting honest and real lyrics first, instead of how the tempo sounds.

“‘Wannabe’ was the first song we wrote for the new record, and as soon as we finished it, we knew it represented the sound we were chasing for this project,” shared Kent. “It’s simple on purpose, and that’s what I love about it. It’s a song about how the little things and everyday moments in life mean more than fame and fortune ever could.”

Surpassing 1 billion career streams earlier this year, Kent continues to build momentum as one of country music’s most compelling rising voices. His second No. 1 single “This Heart” was certified GOLD by the RIAA, while his hard-driving hit “Something’s Gonna Kill Me” was recently certified PLATINUM. Both join Kent’s TRIPLE-PLATINUM No. 1 breakout “Wild As Her.”

Looking ahead, Kent will return to Stagecoach in Indio, California on April 25 and in May, he’ll be back overseas for the Highways Festival in London, U.K. followed by a handful of headline dates in Germany and The Netherlands.

Why not listen to ‘Wannabe‘ now and get into that warming feeling?
