Jesy Nelson is not only a remarkable singer from Little Mix and her own solo career, but also an inspiration to society through her work and campaigning for spreading awareness about spinal muscular atrophy.
Giving birth to her adorable twins, Story and Ocean, in late May 2025, the former Little Mix star had a complicated pregnancy, from going through an emergency procedure in March 2025 to suffering a condition called Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS).
TTTS is a condition where the blood flows unevenly between the identical twins sharing a placenta, which puts pressure on their hearts and growth. The 31-year-old remained strong and determined throughout the pregnancy and created two beautiful twins who are now 10 months old.
Unfortunately, her twins suffered from the diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), which was reported in early 2026. It hasn’t been an easy road for Jesy, but she has continued to fight her way through and has campaigned for SMA awareness across society to make sure no other family receives a late diagnosis throughout their pregnancies.
With her inspiring influence, Jesy joined as a patron for SMA UK, a national charity created in 1985, providing support for families affected by spinal muscular atrophy.
Since joining SMA UK, Jesy has been working hard to campaign for SMA screening to be done for newborns. With a lot of hard work and enthusiasm, recently the singer has won the campaign and has reached out to the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, and has successfully put the NHS SMA screening rollout in place for newborns this October.
Sharing her delightful news on Instagram, Jesy states: “SMA screening is now set to start earlier, from October 2026 instead of 2027 which is such a huge step forward for early diagnosis and the SMA community.
It’ll be rolled out in selected areas first, so while this is real progress there’s still so much more to do. We need to keep pushing to make sure every baby has the opportunity to have this heel prick test at birth.
I truly am grateful for all your support not only for me & my girls, but for everyone in the SMA community… We’re getting closer 🤍.”
The star will continue to fill her love and strength inside this campaign and hopes society will get behind her. What a strong mother nd woman she is!
