Maya Lane - Still the same

Newcomer Maya Lane releases her debut single ‘Still The Same’

Upcoming artist from London, Maya Lane, has gracefully appeared in the music industry making her talent known to the world with her debut single ‘Still The Same‘.

Inspired by the likes of current singers such as Kacey Musgraves, HAIM, and the forever timeliness sounds of Fleetwood Mac and Joni Mitchell, Maya delights us with the first song of her career, which has elegance, flair and style.

The acoustic-led track, ‘Still The Same‘ was co-written with the song’s producer Jonathan Quarmby (Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker, James Arthur). It describes a breakup that has impacted the singer by starting over in life, refreshing her mind without the memories of the past relationship. Maya softly sings, ‘I’m wondering what it was that changed? ‘Cause I’m still just the same.’

On the track, Maya opens up to say how “I wrote ‘Still the Same’ just after the first lockdown in 2020 with Jonathan Quarmby. I went in with a rough chorus idea based around the line ‘dance around our kitchen.’ This phrase really set it all off and led us to the song and the daily moments that remain part of us in good or bad times. I wanted to create a really vivid story line and encapsulate the feeling that sometimes the little things that are so important to you do not change even when it seems everything around you is.”

The first signs of Maya’s love of music were when her dad mistakenly thought of buying her a tennis racket for her 4th birthday, but Maya did not want to be a champion of tennis; she instead wanted to be a champion of music – and that is what she did.

The young Londoner took off by strumming her hands passionately with a guitar, and the enthusiasm for music grew every day. Growing up, Maya shaped her sound, and it eventually led her on the path to start performing from the age of 12, both solo and as part of an all-female band.

More recently, the self-confessed ‘70s dream child has cultivated a first wave of followers on social media by sharing her folk-pop takes on songs by Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift, as well as some select original material.
