Robert Grace sings about the importance of mental health on new single ‘Self’ featuring Emma Steinbakken

With his 16.5 million streams, singer Robert Grace has recently released his new single called ‘Self’ featuring Emma Steinbakken.

In a world full of distressing times, it can take quite the impact on people, creating overwhelming effects on them, with this taking place, what better way to recognise the issue of these sorrowing feelings than writing a song about it, showing people that sometimes it is not all sunshine and rainbows, it can be about other emotions that people try and mask away from others.

‘Self’ underlines the importance of mental health, where singer Robert Grace uses the power of his excellent, distinct vocals to sing about what the experience of depression and anxiety is like. ‘I self-sabotage, self-medicate, self-camouflage, self-isolate/I just really wish that the voices in my head would go and talk to someone else instead/But they don’t want to.’

Though the single explains what negative feelings can give the mind, the music brings a different representation to the song, thinking that songs about anxiety would have a pop-rock genre or a slow ballad. Instead, ‘Self‘ provides a calming sound of an acoustic guitar.

Adding Robert’s and Emma’s soft harmonies with the midtempo music creates a peaceful tone that allows a person who relates to the song to feel the same tranquil energy they do.

Over the last year, Robert Grace’s career has skyrocketed across the UK and Ireland, gaining over 1.7 million followers on TikTok and over 71, 000 followers on Instagram. His first track for Columbia Germany / RCA US ‘Fake Fine’ went platinum in Ireland and spent five weeks at No 1 on both the Irish Homegrown charts and the Shazam Ireland Charts.
